Stress & Acid Reflux – Time To Change
Stress has already been well documented to have such a negative impact on your life by way of sleeping patterns, relationships and many other things. Did you know, however that stress and acid reflux can go hand in hand, so perhaps it is time to re-evaluate your life to check whether or not stress is causing your painful reflux problem.
Scientific studies have proven that stress to an excessive level can play so much havoc to your digestive system that it can almost make it come to a complete standstill. Instead of the food being ingested and moved along to be digested, it stays in your stomach for a long time making the effects of acid reflux even the more noticeable.
Stress is also another factor to why people smoke more and also drink more, two major factors in the causes of acid reflux meaning that stress and acid reflux have such a long and complicated relationship.
The LES valve that keeps the stomach acid from escaping and the food to be ingested in, is massively weakened by excessive drinking and also moderate to heavy smoking, so by doing both of these things, which everyone tends to do when they are stressed, you could be causing your own acid reflux problem.
Stress and acid reflux go hand in hand for such a great many reasons, it can be hard to pin point the exact reason why you are currently experiencing this rather nasty problem. Aside from going to the doctor and pouring your heart out about everything that has been bothering you in the way of stress to explain the acid reflux symptoms, it may be worth keeping a diary.
In this diary, it should be noted on which days that the acid reflux symptoms are worsened and whether or not you have noticed large amounts of stress on yourself during that day. Once you have worked this out, you can then take preventative measures to effectively fight both stress and acid reflux.
Meditation and exercise are great for both stress and acid reflux although in rather different ways, so perhaps incorporating a little more exercise into your lifestyle is the best way in which you can avoid both of these things.
Once you have managed this, you can then go on to look at your drinking and smoking habits and also your diet, which can have a negative effect on both stress and acid reflux, but again in rather different ways.
